The fabric?

I suggest using very soft lightweight woven fabric that drapes beautifully & can be easily gathered. Woven rayon is the best fabric for this dress. Don’t use knits.

Pockets! I decided to add patch pockets to one of the dresses. So if you would like to do the same follow the steps in the tutorial.

The tutorial details how to easily cut the front & back of the dress, the shoulder ties & the belt.  You can use the same material for the ties or use a fancy one - like silk ribbons

I think a maxi dress should have side slits.

The side slits are a sexy detail that looks great. But they also keep you cool when the weather is hot!
